The EPOS Originale 3437 is characterized by an outstanding modern craftsmanship combined with a vintage look. Its design recalls the elegant look of the 1950s, with clean lines and bright colors. The central feature is a high-class manufactured, domed sapphire crystal and visible on the backside is the ‘élaboré’ decorated automatic movement with 25 jewels.
The manufacture process of the domed sapphire crystal is demanding. To get it domed, engineers took a thick sapphire crystal and shaped it inside and outside. This challenging process requires precise adjustments. It’s also worthwhile to have a look how it was made in earlier days. In the 1950s domed glasses were made from perspex, which is not nearly the same quality as sapphire. With a hardness scale of 9, sapphire is the third hardest transparent material after moissanite and diamonds. Compared to the watches made in the 1950s the difference lies in the new material, which is also visible in other components of the 3437. In earlier days’ watchmakers used a mix material instead of stainless steel and chromed it to get the classy look. The main issue was the short lifespan of the chromed material. Nowadays and also in the EPOS 3437 a stainless steel material is used for the case, which is long-lasting and of much higher quality.
Further, the timepiece abounds with continuity. The vintage dial with its indices is domed shaped as well. Its indices are equipped with filled in luminous material, which lasts longer than printed luminous indices. All together the timepiece represents a perfect symbiosis between vintage design and modern technology with high-class components.
