Each month we have a closer look at one of our sophisticated models. This month it was about time to dig deeper into the technical and artistic aspects of another EPOS’ Milestone Product. The EPOS Passion 3405 reflects best the evolution of our watch engineers’ technical knowledge over the years. With each new model we take our idea of mechanical watchmaking a step further. This is how EPOS contributes to the future of traditional Swiss Made watchmaking. Models like the Tourbillon, the Five Minute Repeater or the GMT watch, at which we had a look in November, represent our key aspiration of ‘Artistry In Watchmaking’.
Each unique model is handmade, developed and produced in Switzerland with the high care and passion of our watch engineers – such as the EPOS Passion 3405.
Sometimes it’s tempting to look at time a bit differently. Mechanical watchmaking offers many variations besides the traditional hour hands, minute hands and seconds. With its Jumping Hour the EPOS 3405 is such an alternative.
The hour hand is missing, giving the timepiece a striking and clear design. Instead the hour is displayed by the digit at 3 o’clock, under the nicely engraved ‘heure sautante’ (French for Jumping Hour). Every hour the digit changes, which is an exciting event to watch and definitely an eye catcher. Therefore only the minute and second hands are rotating over the the silver dial, executed with a traditional ‘Côtes De Genève’-pattern and applied Indexes.
At 6 o’clock is the date indication in an unconventional roundish shape, under the lavishly engraved ‘date’.
The picture above reveals the complicated mechanism on top of the Swiss Made automatic movement ETA 2829. The mechanism of the Jumping Hour with the module is completely produced and designed by EPOS engineers. With Swiss precision the digit jumps each time the minute hand is moving over 12 o’clock.
The timepieces’ back is equipped with see-through mineral to point out the movements’ sophisticated ‘perlage’ pattern decoration.
The whole work of art is built in a 43 mm wide stainless steel case with a water resistance of 10ATM. All in all – Artistry In Watchmaking at its best!
